ADHD has multiple causes, all of which can be thought of as Stressors on the body/mind system. Effective treatment of ADHD requires identifying and removing as many of these stressors as possible, as well as re-training in focus and attention.
Dr. Benjamin Perkus graduated with a B.A. in Philosphy from Binghamton University in 1989 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in 1997. He has interned at the Center for Psychological Services at the University of Ottawa, where he received specialized training in marital and child therapy. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Binghamton General Hospital before beginning private practice in 1998. He now specializes in marital therapy, child and adult ADD/ADHD, and helping adults find and actualize their highest potential.
Attention problems create problems for the person afflicted as well as spouses, children, and families of the person. While medication may provide some symptomatic relief, it will never resolve the underlying causes of the problem.
Only a careful assessment of underlying stressors, and a program for remediating these stressors, can provide long-term relief. Dr. Perkus has done the research to be able to sift through the symptoms and reach the cause.
